  • Who are the recording artists you like and listen to the most?
  • Have any of these artists made you aware of a problem or issue in our society? If so, what problems or issues has the music brought to your attention? How does the song or music make you feel about the issue? What role do the lyrics play? What role does the music itself play?

  1. I usually listen to music in the morning, when I walk to school and when I get home from school until I go to sleep. So about 4 hours. The artists I listen to the most is Bruno Mars and Prince Royce. The music hasn't touched an issues about the world.

  2. Well I always listen to music every now and then , like in the morning in class and when there is nothing else to do, that would be a couple of hours per week. I like the listen to J.Cole,The Weekend and Lana Del Rey, they all are my favorite but J.Cole makes me realize how society was to him. He explains how the world treat minorities he tells how growing up was difficult with a society we had .

  3. I listen to music at least 25-30 hours a week. I dont make any music myself. I listen to Sia, Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, and Ellie Goulding. None relate to the issue in society.

  4. I cannot even count or give an approximate estimation on how many hours i listen to music a week. I can say the same about playing and making music of my own. The artists which I am most fond to are The Strokes, Rise Against and The Killers. The band that has most informed me is Rise Against because most of their music makes me aware of the problems/controversies happening around the world. An example of this type of song is the song titled 'Hero of War' were they talk about how war on our side really is. Music like this really gets me thinking about how the world really is and also gets me to think differently about not only different nations, but ours as well.

  5. I usually spend about five-to-eight hours a week listening to music. I now listen to a band called Mystery Skulls, but from time to time I listen to Linkin Park. Mystery Skulls nor Linkin Park has introduced an issue relevant to society from my understanding. However, Hozier's "Take me to Church" brings along the issue of homosexuality into his song. It always leaves me emotional whenever I listen to it, because I support the LGBT cause, and for people and religions to disagree with homosexuality calling it a "sickness" is inexcusable. Everyone is entitled to pursue whatever they love the most, and if that love is of the same gender, They have that right.

  6. I usually listen to music about 6 hours a week maximum. I don't necessarily make music, I just make up words and forget what I sanged about. I don't have a favorite recording artist that a listen to the most. Most of the music that I listen to doesn't discuss issues in the society today.

  7. Usually when I am not doing anything else I will most likely be listening to music. I really enjoy Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and The 1975. I saw a Foo Fighters documentary once and they talked about suicide.

  8. I think I spend about 30 or 40 min listening to music because I just get tired of it . I guess i've never been into music that much. The music I listen too doesn't talk about any issues or problems.

  9. I spend about 1-2 hours listening to music. My favorite artists are Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, and Queen. One song that has made me aware of an issue in our society is "Man In the Mirror" by Michael Jackson, this song has made me realize how much poverty exist in world and that no one does nothing about it. This song makes me feel sad and it also help me realize in order for the world to change everybody needs to start with themselves.

  10. I spend about 5 hours a week hearing music. Recording artist I like would be Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, The Smiths, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar and many more that I can't remember at this time. Yes, some of these artists have made me aware of problems that are going on around me. In one of the songs there is a song lyric that says, "In this white man world, we're the one that are chosen" meaning to me that there are very few minorities who actually live a privileged life as the white people do. The song makes me feel oblivious because all this time that problem, has me surrounded, but I never noticed, it makes me doubt myself because there is little chance of me being someone important, but it gives me hope that I can make something out of myself. The music play a huge role it impacts many people who listen because they can relate to the lyrics being said.

  11. I listen to music very often. Too often.
I listen to a lot of artists as well. I'm not very limited. I can go from rap to post hardcore in like... two seconds.
I think that the first song that ever made be conscious about issues in society was "All Falls Down" by Kanye West. I was pretty young when it came out and I didn't really understand what he meant. That is, until I got older and started to understand that there is something very wrong with our society. I feel like nowadays, people just buy things to impress each other. Not because we really like it. We need the freshest shoes, the freshest clothes, or you're outcasted by your peers. We sort of live in a world where the younger people value education less. We have people doing things to like selling drugs because they cant make a proper living, mothers on welfare, and fathers in prison. I think the saddest thing is that children and outcasted very young if they don't conform to society's standards. I'd like it to change. Because it takes a toll on parents (especially the parents that cannot afford the newest jordans or the newest clothes), and also the children who are going to school and being taunted because their shoes or clothes are from last year. I just think that society's priorities are out of place. But hey, I'm just one person.

  12. I can estimate around the average of 16 hour in a week. I plan to create my own music in the future.
The band I love to listen to is Three Days Grace. In my personal opinion no artist make issues in our society, we connect to what situation we been through in our life whether we are happy, sad, angry, confused and the list goes on. Music can sometimes make me forget about my issue for that time and enjoy the moment. The role the lyrics play is the vocalist showing emotion as he/she speak these expression, in other words the artist is sending a message. The role music plays is for enjoyment .

  13. I spend at least 50 hours a week listening to music, it's just so addicting. (Other then that, I don't count hours.) :I I don't make music though. I'm not a rich individual with talents.
I listen to Panic At The Disco, Paramore, Bruno Mars, Pitbull, Marina And The Diamonds, Random Japanese singers, etc. etc. Anything can come to my liking.
Well, the most recent song that comes to mind when we talk about society's issues is Take me to church by Hozier. This song is about Homosexuality if I'm not mistaken.

  14. I'd like to say I spend around 15-25 hours (maybe more, maybe less) a week listening to music and I spend about 3-5 hours a week practicing how to play the guitar. The recording artists (bands) I like and listen to the most are Brand New, Dance Gavin Dance, The Amity Affliction and many more. Rise Against made a song called "Hero Of War" which is just about a young man who joins the armed forces. Some lyrics from the song: "They took off his clothes, they pissed in his hands, I told them to stop, but then I joined in...A hero of war, is that what they see, just medals and scar, so damn proud of me." This makes me think about the way war really is.

  15. I listen to music for about 20-30 hours during a school day. From the time I wake up and grab my phone and earbuds, to the time I walk into the school building, I'm listening to music. From the time I walk out of the school building and onto the outside pavement, to the time it takes to go home, I'm also listening to music. I listen to music all day. I listen to music when I'm awake and when I'm asleep but I have never really heard a song that made me aware of a problem in the world. I listen to a lot of pop punk bands, hardcore, post-hardcore and a little bit of rap and I can't think of one song. But, the artist themselves are always doing something for a cause. Like during a 2010 concert leg, one of my favorite bands, Pierce the Veil sold Invisible Children t-shirts which shined awareness on the Joseph Kony and what he was doing to kids and people in general in Africa.

  16. I spend about 35 hours per week listening to music. I like to listen to Chevelle, Evans Blue, AFI, and Rise Against. Rise Against made me aware of the issues in our society like bullying and people in need of help. The songs makes me feel like a lot of people are in need of help but doesn't get it sometimes.

  17. I spend countless hours on music that I can't keep up. I don't have a favorite artist but recently I've been hooked on 'The Strokes' & 'System Of a Down', they're awesomly awesome. There album 'This is It' by The Strokes is my favorite one so far . System Of A Down is has a unique way of spreading their voice through music. They believe that the governemnt is corrupted by using money on warfare other than using that money in good use to help the homeless. It brings awareness that society has this idea that money on war will save everything. There songs show that people are scared to speak up because the government is powerful which is why its so corrupt. Make love not war.

  18. In a week I listen to about 21 hours a week and I do make my own music because if I tried I'm pretty sure it would be a major failure. The artist I like are people like Ed Sheeran, My chemical Romance, 30 seconds to mars, Michael Jackson, Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, Lady Antebellum. At the moment I think "We are the World" is the only song I can think of at the moment. It talks about how people should be united rather than fight each other and end up killing innocent people for no reason. The son makes me feel kind of sad because it just tells me that human beings like to cause trouble rather then work things out with other people.

  19. I spent like 5 hours listening to music a day. I like to listen to Skillet, Rise Against, Evanescence, Three Days Grace and many more types of music. Yes, every time I listen to this particular song from Three Days Grace I really get emotional. The song talks about that the world is corrupt and that this world will never get to be the way it was. That many people die because they get killed for no reason, and that their is a lot of violence.

I pretty much try to listen to as much music as i can not because i feel i have to, its just because with out music life is so one sided, i think music is the six sense that all people are able to interact with it defiantly gives a more spiritual vibe in terms of how i view it but its a power thing when i listen to MF doom, or mac miller, or underachievers these are all artist whom all make beneficial music they give another demsinsion to the music world

  23. I listen to at least an hour a day listening to music. I Started to make music myself when i was in middle school. Since Im a musician, I am curious about all kinds of music. I mostly listen to rock, corridos, bachata, and hip hop. I have lots of favorite artist but the one I would really love to meet would be Slash from guns and roses. the Reason why is because i want to learn the way he plays the guitar. any secrets, tips and tricks

  24. I usually listen to music for about 4-5 hours daily, I really don't make music but just enjoy it. I mostly listen to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Crystal Castles, Linkin Park, the Strokes and the Beatles. Most of this is classic rock and rock. Mainly, there are problems with the artist themselves. Though there are a few that have issues with humanity and how many people instead of fighting each other, create a an environment where no matter who you are color, gender, or sexual orientation we shouldn't be oppressed that just doesn't seem to make sense.

  28. I spend like about 7 hours listening to music. I don't make music. I don't have a specific artist or anything, but I listen to a lot of bands. The music I listen to, brought my attention to how society sees and judges people by the way they are, what they like, what they do, and more. The songs I listen too, often talk about that society shouldn't judge who you are, to just be you. The music I listen to, overall, plays the role of being your friend through most times which is pretty cool, And the lyrics are words that encourage you to see the world differently, as well as yourself.

  29. I think I spend about 10-20 hours a week listening to music. I don't make music unless I'm with my uncle messing around with beats, which is rare. I like listening to John Legend, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Jhene Aiko, August Alsina, The Weeknd and Chris Brown. But when I want to have fun I listen to all types of rap music. It really doesn't matter what type as long as the song is good. Jhene make me think of love and most artists do not talk about love anymore. J. Cole really explains how society is and he just throws reality at you in a truthful way. All their music makes me feel normal but the ones who truly talk about something just makes me gain respect for them and understand where they are coming from. And if I really wanted to listen to music that makes sense then I would go and listen to old music from the 80's or something because it's good music honestly.

  32. I believe that I spend about 35 hours a week. I like to hear artist/groups like Rise Against, Skillet, Daughtry, 30 Seconds to Mars, and many more. 30 Seconds of Mars actually made me aware that War can destroy us if we don't destroy it. The song called "This is War" helps us understand many things that happened in the past and the things that are happening right now. The lyrics in this song say a lot of things that are true in this world and that we could change. Their are some lyrics that say "it's the moment of truth", this tells me that we can change the world.

  33. I listen to music every single day, from the time I get home to the time I go to sleep. Music helps me relax. I like to write music also but its nothing really serious. The recording artists that I listen to the most would be: Willamette Stone, One Direction, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Ed Sheeran and many more. These artists have showed me that being skinny and having a nice body is nothing if you don't have a nice personality. They have also showed me that I am beautiful with just the way I am. And I shouldn't change for anyone. They have proved to me that societies definition of perfect and pretty isn't important because every person is beautiful just the way they are. One Direction have taught me to love myself no matter what. They have showed me that they don't care about the way we look because they still love us no matter what and we shouldn't care about what people think about me. Ed Sheeran has showed me to love myself for who I am. 5 Seconds Of Summer has helped me to express my feelings and just be myself.

  36. I spend at least 2 hours in the morning, some during class for about a hour and about 3-4 at night a day listening to music. I don't make music but I do have "a voice", it runs in the family. I usually listen to my favorite artists: August Alsina , YG, Nipsey Hussle, Lil Durk, Keyshia Cole & Monica. All of the male artists brung to my attention about how the street ain't safe, how just because you come from "the hood" dosen't mean you cant make it out & be successful, and how to be aware of who you roll with, to always have your guards up because your close ones can be your enemy. The female artists makes encouraging songs for the young girls especially. The things they say inspire us to not give up or to be ware of the boys out in the world today, don't let them be the reason you have no life, watch the "playas" don't let them fool you. They say no matter if you have support or not motivate yourself and become the successful person you want to be. I look at all of their songs as a "heads Up" on a lot that I might not notice in the world today. There can be days when I feel down and listen to any one of their songs and I automatically get lifted back up in the spirit. The songs make me feel better about myself no matter of the situation i'm in. Some of their problems relate to the problems I have in my life so thats another reason why those artists are my favs and their music is the BEST !!

  37. I probably spend about 30-40 hours of my week listening to music. I listen to many different genres because I don't want to get bored listening to the same Artist over and over again, But I have to say three of my favorite singers would be The Weekend Lana Del Rey and J.Cole. The music doesn't necassarily, in my point of view, help the society. I'm just in love with the lyrics.

  42. I probably spend about 22 hours a week listening to music. I haven't tried making music myself so i don't spend time doing that. I listen mostly to spanish music, and so far i haven't noticed any of the songs i listen to talk about anything going on in society, other than drug trafficking. These songs about drug trafficking make me think a lot about how people get caught up thinking money is everything in the world when in reality its not. One day they have everything they've ever wanted and the next day they are back where they started and sometimes they are left with nothing. When i listen to english music i do hear a lot more about what is going on i society. I hear how people are judged and how you have to be a certain way in order to fit in. Some artists talk about love and how it hurts but it is important in peoples lives.

I honestly dont have a artist i listen to the most because i listen to alot but i listen to Phora and The weekend the most . They have made me notice a issue in our society you can say . Phora raps about basically the truth in our society and makes it in a way where you can understand . The weekend sings about personal life , or problems that happen in most lives of people . I can relate to them because in their music they sing about feelings that are common or their lyrics describe something that has happened to you or the way you feel at the moment or have before .

  66. I think I spend more time than I actually realize since I tend to listen to it almost all the time. I don't have a favorite artist or song but I do have a favorite type of music. There are multiple artist that have shown me a message of what's going on or what's is not being done. One song goes out for the ones who have been bullied and how they feel worthless but to not feel like that because there is an angel in their soul that people don't see and how life is beautiful. It's a problem that people might not know if others had so that this song is probably the something they need to comfort them and let them know that everything is fine because they are not alone and to not give up on life. Another song may say why do they send the poor to fight always instead of the presidents or any higher up people.

  68. - i listen to music at least everyday about 3 hours a day. An example of the artist i listen to is system of a down. This band talks about war like events and other problems in society. Like how we waste money on bombs instead of helping others that starve in other countries. When i listen to this, i feel like i should do something , i feel energetic.

  72. I spend most of my time listening to music when I'm not playing video games or watching YouTube. I tend to listen to Eminem, Hospin, E-dubble, Bobby Rays, and Techn9ne. Not only that I listen to rock like Three Days Grace, Offspring, Skillet, Gorrilaz, and other bands. I also like Daft Punk and sound tracks from games like. Songs from my favorite fandom are pretty amazing and can sometimes rival songs that can rival songs from my favorite rapper or creator.

  73. I listen ot music maybe 4 hours a week. I listen to all kinds of music but I mostly like Boyfriend, Crush 40 and Cake. Cake is mostly the band that makes me think about society because of their consistent critiques of society. In one song, they talk about how issues or people are simply forgotten and never addressed(The hype of things goes down). Their music makes me see society through different angles, rather than the optimistic lens I view it through. This is because of their use of alternative rock and the lead singer's style of singing.

  74. I listen to music all the time. I spend my time listening to Bachata.I listen to Romero Santos he talks about love. Since teens fall in love while they young he talks about how love isn't just to make you happy it's how you carry yourself against love. Thats the only type of music i listen to and a little bit of hip-hop and rap. I don't get a lot of time to listen to music but when i can i take advantage.
