  3. In the book so far, we see that at first, the author is living a comfortable life. We see that he gets into rapping with some friends and his brother and practices with them in his free time. One day, his rapping group went to a talent show and left home. When they arrived, they heard the news of their hometown being attacked by the rebel forces. By then, it wasn't long before he had his first taste of war when the RUF showed up and started killing by the dozens. Eventually, he was abducted by the rebel forces and was brain washed.

I want to know how ishmael got into the child soldiers. Tell me. Spoilers don't hurt me.
So far only that one kid who didn't want to get his things left behind got killed. Those rebels looked at them, but no one was captured as of yet. Will they get caught? Well, it was mentioned before, so... It should be soon.
As much as I want Ishmael to be uncorrupted.. It can't be help.

  6. In the beginning, he and his buddies were having such a good time, being kids, not having a care in the world. Ishmael is having a blast with his brother and their friends up until they caught a glimpse of war. That small glimpse made the children run away from danger. It ended up making them suffer from extreme hunger so they returned. Not once but twice. Unfortunately, the second time they were captured by the rebels.

  7. Ishmael was living the life of an average boy his age would live in the US, until war broke out in his village. He has heard of the war occurring before, but to him the stories that were being told sounded as if they were in a faraway land. Lucky for him, he wasn't in his village. when the rebels began attacking. He was on his way to a Rap Talent Show. However, he did have to go back for some food, and money. He got back safely, but there he wasn't able to buy anything for they feared he might be a child soldier.

  32. In the past four chapters in the book A Long Way Gone it has gone through the way he has lived as a child, a wonderful every kids perfect childhood full of adventures and friends. Along the way he discusses how he never expected a simple trip with his friends would be the last time he would have seen his family. The atrocities that he saw with his bare eyes as blood fell down of wounded people, bodies everywhere he saw, a woman carrying her baby who was shot without her knowing. The mind of an innocent child was no longer there for the images he now carried on his head were far to dreadful to ever go back to his previous views of life.

Him and his friends find interest in HipHop and decide to demonstrate their skills in rap at a talent show a bit far from home. In addition to the talent show, the book includes average day to day events for example, Ishmael includes the event of having fun in a river with his friends. A sudden twist occurs, while Ishmael and his friends are in a different town, Ishmael's hometown is said to be attacked by the Rebels. Next on the list of towns to be attacked is the one he is in at the moment. He experiences this war scene himself. Hiding in bushes, running away from dangerous men and dreading his thoughts about where his family could be. He continues the path in front of him that he can not see.

  38. In chapters 1-4, Ishmael has gone from living a free and safe life style to now being one filled with violence and danger. The story starts off with the thought of Ishmael going off to a talent show with his brother and friends. Throughout the chapters 1-2, his life is quickly changed from him traveling to this talent show towards the town of Mattru Jong to then having to fear for his life and go into hiding due to the attack the RUF has placed upon Ishmael's hometown. From what we have read in chapters 2-4, Ishmael is now suffering through all the violence that is going on; he is separated from his family and is learning to live and survive the violence that the RUF is placing. The RUF seems to be extremely violent in where civilians suffer greatly from the torturing methods this organization runs themselves.

He liked rap music and the style and to rap even if he didn't understand what they were saying. He didn't really have a good relationship with his dad. I guess his dad brought women in and out of his life to be stepmothers but Ishmael didn't like them nor like how he dad let his mother struggle on her own. Which led to him not being able to attend school. Him and his brothers had to travel within cities to escape the RUF and their killing. They were going to find their parents but they decided not to. 60. From what I remember of the book is that Ishmael was just a normal kid. One day they were going out of town for a talent show to realize halfway there that there town has been attacked and the people were fleeing. Some suffered a gruesome fate that ishmael got to witness. Even when he is older he is still conflicted by this as he has flashbacks of what he used to do or see. That war ruined his childhood of having fun, rapping with his friends and turned it into killing people without any remorse and even using that corpse as a chair to sit and eat on.

  61. In Chapter 1-4, we were introduced to Ishmael, his family, friends and community. At first al seemed more than joyous, but after the war reached their towns everything became chaotic. After the RUF began invaded their lands, people who were known for being happy and kind now became very paranoid. The RUF began killing people in order to place fear upon the lives of others. Ishmael and his friends left for a Talent Show when this all began in his village, and became separated from his family. Also Ishmael, although not yet in the story, was a young soldier who killed with no remorse.

  68. Ismael started the book by introducing himself and his surroundings including his relationship with people. Then they had stated that they were going to the talent show. But in a turn of events, The RUF were heading towards the village. As they came closer and the rebels did not show, the villagers ran. People died when trying to get away.(lets not forget about the messenger that had RUF carved into him and his fingers cut off and only had thumbs) Later on, Ismael his brother and friends got away and soon reached a village, which was abandoned recently. They found food and even money. They tried to go to the shops, but had problems getting through the RUF. Hiding in the dead bodies, then ran to the shop(or the other way around) and tried to buy something but the owner refused to keep the food to themselves. I am sure we ended when they were going to be captured.
